LEGO builds excitement for Canberra store opening

It’s time for LEGO fans to dust off their collector shelves and make room because Canberra’s new store is set to open this Saturday, November 6.

Located at the Canberra Centre on Bunda Street the news was released on the LEGO Certified Stores Australia and New Zealand Facebook page.

“The wait is nearly over Canberra,” the post says. “We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been building!”

Those who have made the trip to the Canberra Centre in recent months may have already seen the advertisements indicating the opening of the capital’s first LEGO Certified Store.

LEGO Australia and New Zealand and store operator Alquemie Group announced in March that the store would be opening in Canberra but seven months later we finally have a set date.

It will house one of the country’s largest collections of LEGO sets and limited-edition packs, not to mention a portfolio of play experiences, activities and events, Alquemie Group’s Richard Facioni said.

“With one of the most loyal and growing communities of brick fans in the country, Canberra has been on our radar for some time as an ideal venue for a new LEGO-certified store,” he said.

The store will include a large, wall-mounted mosaic and a world-first 3D model of a local landmark made by the southern hemisphere’s only LEGO-certified professional, Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught.

There will also be a Pick a Brick Wall – where LEGO fans can fill a cup with their choice of bricks and elements.

A Build a Minifigure Tower – which will allow builders to mix and match from a wide selection of heads, hair, tops, bottoms and accessories to create a Minifigure – will also feature in the new store.

Lastly, the store will have a Digital Box where people can scan almost any LEGO boxed set and watch it come to life in 3D on a wall-mounted screen.

“We look forward to proudly unveiling an inspiring new retail experience for Canberra which showcases the creative potential of the world-famous LEGO brick,” Facioni said.
