Kim Turner to go again

“I hate leaving things undone”, the words of Kim Turner, one of the current Councillors who will be running in the Council elections in December.

Kim entered the current term with the hope of seeing both the Commercial Hotel and the Liberty Theatre restored. While wheels are turning on both projects, neither has come to fruition as of yet. In the meantime, the state of the rest of the main street has regressed further.

“This time around we just haven’t had an opportunity to fix up the main street and I think that’s a priority. The main street is looking a tad shabby.

One of the more experienced Councillor candidates, Kim becomes an obvious option for one of the two mayoral roles

“I’m happy to take on the mayoral role if that is the wish of my fellow councillors.”

“I’d also be very happy to be Deputy Mayor again, it was a role I enjoyed and a role I think that I do reasonably well.”

“I’m happy to take on anything that anyone throws my way,” he said.

Kim views improving how local tourist destinations are showcased as vital in ensuring the Yass Valley becomes a place people want to visit rather than simply stop in. He believes change like this to be inevitable and essential in securing a prosperous future for the Yass Valley.

“I stood the last time around saying that the status quo was not an alternative, it’s still not an alternative. We have to move forward.”

“I’m passionate about this community. I love it with an absolute passion and I want to see it in a much better place before I die,” he said.

Whether he gets elected again or not, it will not alter his level of involvement with the community.

“I will continue to represent the community that I’m a strong part of and that I love. Even if I’m not elected, I will still be involved in the community.”

“My involvement in Rotary, the markets, Riverbank Park and all of those things, it won’t change. But, I’d like to be able to do that from a position of strength,” said Kim.
