Jasmin passes the baton

Yass Valley Times outgoing Editor & Co-owner Jasmin Jones

The role of editor of the Yass Valley Times has put my finger on the throbbing pulse of our community.

This privilege allowed me to walk alongside so many of you as you told your stories through our pages.

It has been an honour, but it is now time for me to pass the editorial baton.

As new family duties take precedence and ahead of the local government election, the time is right for me to hand over the reins to the capable hands of Matthew Stadtmiller.

Since its inception, Matthew has been a key worker on the Yass Valley Times, taking on whatever role needed doing, whether it be the layout of the paper to ensuring there are vehicles serviced and ready to drive to the next story! With his wealth of experience in news, sports, and editing, the expansion of his duties to the editor will be seamless for our readers and staff.

There will be those familiar with Matthew through football and cricketing persuasions along with Binalong locals, as the Stadtmiller clan has ties going back 100+ years in the area.

Matthew and his wife Nyssa know firsthand the joy and challenges of raising a family in a rural community and running newspapers. They are expecting their third child later this year.

Please welcome Matthew to the role and remember to drop him a Letter to The Editor.  Editor@yassvalleytimes.com.au

Editor,

Jasmin Jones.

Matthew Stadtmiller steps into the role of Editor

The staff at the Times would like to thank Jasmin for her efforts with the newspaper over the last 12 months. Jasmin took a very brave step and along with other staff members, helped ensure that the Yass Valley Times could come into being on June 10, 2020, and continue to today and beyond.

There’s been sleepless nights and plenty of hustle and bustle for the Jones family alongside the paper which has shone a light back on what is happening in the Yass area and surrounds. The role of Editor is no easy feat, however, Jasmin performed the role with distinction.

Jasmin’s commitment to the communities which make up the Yass Valley area highlights her love for the people and the places. We wish her all the best as she takes a back seat role within the organisation.

I have been working in the newspaper industry for 9 years and completed a Bachelor of Arts in Television Production in 2011. Since then I have worked for Fairfax Media before I set up and operated the independent  Twin Town Times (2014) with the help of staff, which focusses on Harden Murrumburrah and surrounds. Prior to the Yass Valley Times and with the assistance of others, we began covering the Cootamundra area on April 23 2020 and continue to do so in a joint paper.

I played Rugby against the Rams, League against Binalong and continue to be a fairly ordinary B grade cricketer playing in the Yass competition in my younger days.

My family has connections to the area dating back to the 1880s with a small lane at Bowning named after my family’s surname, ‘Stadtmiller Lane’.

The Yass Valley Times will continue to do what it does best. That is, to provide news and advertising opportunities in print and online. I look forward to getting out and about in Yass and surrounds to assist our journalist Max O’Driscoll and continue to grow the paper for the people who read it and beyond.

Yours sincerely,

Matthew Stadtmiller
