Irrigear sets up for success in Yass

Yass a “fantastic” fit, according to Irrigear-Yass Director Charlie McDonald.

Irrigear is a nationwide chain for irrigation products and services with 80 stores across Australia.

Charlie owns two of those stores, one in Goulburn and one at 2/63 Laidlaw Street here in Yass.

Having done service work in Yass for many years, it was feedback from locals that ignited the move to the area.

“The feedback we were receiving was that there was a need for an irrigation shop here.”

“We had been talking about it for five years or more, and in the last three years we got pretty serious about it, and in November we found a shop to set up, so we signed a lease and started on the 1st of December,” he said.

Charlie has been thrilled with the initial response from locals over his first three months.

“It’s been fantastic.”

“A really good response from the locals, it’s a nice town, and I think we are filling a need that they had for expertise, pumps and irrigation, installation and supply,” he said.

Yass’ combination of both residential and farming land suits the diverse ability and product catalogue of Irrigear.

“It’s the perfect mix for us actually.”

“The residential stuff is really booming in this area across Murrumbateman and Yass.”

“The farm stuff, troughs, tanks and solar pumps as well,” he said.

Coming from what he described as a relaxed approach to farming in the Goulburn community, Charlie has found the more business-focused farmers of the Yass Valley to be a welcome change.

“The farmers out here certainly do things properly, which is what we like.”

“Quality over price is a good thing because quality is remembered a long time after the price is forgotten,” he said.

Charlie posed that whilst this year has been a good water season for the Yass Valley and surrounding areas, water will remain an issue in the impending seasons, and this season offers the perfect opportunity to better prepare for those drier periods when they come.

“The guys that are prepared are the ones that succeed in the long term.”

“The guys that aren’t, that think this is normal are the ones that when it does come dry, end up having a crisis, that costs them money,” he said.

The Yass Valley Times welcomes Irrigear to Yass and our pages as a valued advertiser.

Charlie and his team are a really friendly crew, head down to 2/63 Laidlaw Street today for all your irrigation needs.
