Nick celebrates 80 – Loyal local customer Lynn Eade and Liberty Cafe’s Nick Macris on a typical night’s trade where his fish & chips are a menu favourite
Nick Macris turns eighty today (Monday September 14th, 2020) and he says he would “go bananas” if he retired.
Nick has been feeding Yass families for fifty years in Yass.
“I come to Yass as a young boy. I’ve worked hard all my years. I started fifty years ago in the Hume Café, then the chicken shop across the road and from the chicken shop I come here (Liberty Cafe) 25 years ago.
“I’ll be doing this until the last minute. If I stop, what am I going to do?” Nick shrugged “I’d go bananas.”
Offering the classic Greek milk-bar experience, the Liberty Café on the main street of Yass has loyal local customers.
Regular Lynn Eade was in the café picking up a meal when Yass Valley Times dropped in last Monday night.
“The week we moved to Yass ten years ago we came down to get something for dinner and we’ve been coming back ever since, once a week at least. It’s great fish and chip and he’s (Nick) wonderful. We wish him a very happy birthday.”
And Yass Valley Times does too. Happy eightieth birthday Nick. Long may your salt-shaker bless our chips!”
