HumeLink – delivering affordable, safe and reliable electricity.
Why do we need HumeLink?
HumeLink will:
- benefit energy customers and deliver $491 million in net benefits;
-
increase the amount of electricity that can be delivered to customers in NSW, the ACT and across the National Electricity Market;
-
reduce the need for new dispatchable generation investment to meet growing demands;
-
avoid capital costs that would otherwise be required associated with enabling greater integration of renewables in the National Electricity Market (NEM);
-
lower the aggregate generator fuel costs required to meet future demand in the NEM
-
provide significant ‘competition benefits’ by increasing the efficiency of bidding in the wholesale market;
-
help facilitate further reductions of carbon emissions to support achieving Australia’s climate change targets;
- create more than 1000 construction jobs; and
-
contribute to regional economic activity generating major benefits for local communities along the route.
We would like community members to join independent
Community Consultative Groups (CCGs) for HumeLink,
a new electricity transmission line TransGrid is planning for southern NSW.
There will be three CCGs of 12 members each representing:
- Yass and Upper Lachlan Shires
- Wagga Wagga and Cootamundra Gundagai Shires
- Snowy Valleys LGA
The groups will meet with TransGrid, landowners and community-focused stakeholders at least four times a year to provide feedback into the planning process and engagement approach.
Participation is voluntary.
