Several local RFS brigades responded to reports of a grass fire near Burly Griffin Way between Bowning and Binalong yesterday, which is now contained.
RFS Southern Tablelands District Coordinator George Shepherd confirmed the fire was contained and said he believed it was about 16 hectares in size.
The responding brigades, including Yass Valley Support Brigade, NSW RFS Bowning Brigade, Bango Brigade RFS, and Bookham Brigade, defended the perimeter and contained the fire.
Mr Shepherd said they believe farm machinery hitting a rock was the cause of the grass fire.
“As it stands now (Thursday, February 10) it was just burning in some older grass, which ignited from the farm implement,” he said. “Unfortunately the first bit of warm weather we’ve had things start to change.”
Be fire safe and fire aware especially if you are working or living on a rural property.
Details to come.
