The creativity of the Yass Valley will be on show for all comers on the longer weekend of 3rd to 5th of November with the Visual Arts Society of Yass (VASY) Art Exhibition in the Yass Community Centre, beside the Men’s Shed.
During 2023, VASY has played host to a wide range of creative art workshops which have inspired many of the pieces being entered for exhibit. Entries close on the 26th October.
“The art is already coming in from VASY’s talented members as well as other 2023 workshop participants and some special guest artists, with entries in all mediums and sizes of artworks being represented.” said Susan Bell, VASY Committee Member. “In particular, this year special sculpture pieces will feature with some unique fabric artworks. For sale will also be gift cards, pottery, mounted unframed works and photography. It will be a great opportunity to take home a chosen piece for yourself or for a loved one.”
Other groups such as the Woodworking group of the Men’s Shed and the Quick Quilters will also have displays over the weekend, bringing a wide range of hand-crafted work.
Special gift buying for Christmas will also be back, created locally, with Christmas tree ornaments and woven wreaths, always a popular buy for home displays.
Art workshops Saturday 4 November
The Community Centre will also be hosting two fun short workshops on Saturday 4th November with Sally Black from 10 am to 12:30 or from 1pm to 3:30pm. Susan recommends these workshops as “great for anyone interested in learning something new in a new way.
Sally explains that it combines painting and printmaking into what is called a monoprint. A single print created as a unique one-off artwork.” Sally is a friendly and experienced teacher as well as an exhibiting artist, perfecting this process in her own workshop at Strathnairn Art Centre to create large landscapes of the ACT surrounds. She uses liquid watercolours on a specially prepared acrylic surface. Once dry, the surface is pressed against damp printmaking paper through a printing press. The process leads to original marks and swirls which gives the image a life force of its own. All materials are provided, and you will be able to keep and display your finished prints.
