Enjoy our wine of the week McKellar Ridge “Trio” 60 second swirl review

Marina and John have been waving their winemaking wand for a couple of vintages now at their McKellar Ridge in Murrumbateman.

The wines are classically cool climate in style and true expressions of variety and vintage. A trip to their cellar door is a wonderful wine experience and the duo’s passion and enthusiasm for their wine is evident in every drop you drink.

This week’s “swirl” is the McKellar Ridge “Trio” and is a fantastic example.

The Trio is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The colour is deep garnet red with flashes of purple from within. A swirl reveals an explosion of aromas of deeply dark fruits including black currants and blackberries with a hint of black olive, a whiff of violets and a dusting of allspice and star anise.

The wine jumps lively to all four corners of the mouth with ripe, black fruit flavours, a lick of vanilla, fine and elegant tannins and lingers longingly with the finish.

This elegant wine teams superbly with a grilled cut of prime beef. It’s available at the cellar door for $50 and also available online
