Car burnt out just off Comur Street

A car caught fire early Friday morning last week on the corner of Comur and Meehan Street.

Yass Fire and Rescue Acting Captain Nick Whiting said they received the 000 call of a reported car fire at about 3am.

“On arrival the car was well alight, and crews got to work extinguishing the car,” he said.

Nick said it’s unknown exactly who called it in but it’s likely people in neighbouring buildings woke up to the sound of explosions and tires popping.

The owner of the car is Tarati, a mother of three who lives close by and would often park her car near her home.

Melissa Wheatley organised a Go Fund Me page for Tarati and her family, which you can donate to here. It currently sits at $4,000 at the time of writing.

“The most truly generous persons are those who give silently without hope of praise or reward in return; and our dear friend, Tarati is one of those people,” Melissa wrote on the page.

“Tarati watched as her car and livelihood went up in flames; her only means of transport for herself and three young children.”

“Blessed that her home and babies are safe, I feel the Yass community can get behind Tarati and her family to help get them back on the road with a new set of wheels and car seats.”

“Forever grateful if you can help this beautiful family out.”

Nick said it’s still unknown what caused the fire.

“Something like that’s a bit difficult, especially that early in the morning with any telling signs,” he said. “At this stage it is still undetermined.”
