Adrian Cameron for Yass Valley Council

Adrian Cameron is the lead candidate on the Greens party ticket for the upcoming Yass Valley Council elections. He was quickly taken by the Yass Valley after an overnight stay in Yass eight years ago, and he’s been living here ever since.

Since moving to Yass, he has served as Vice President of the Historical Society for five years and participated in three separate Council sub-committees.

“Having been on the Council sub-committees, and they worked quite hard to try and get something up. I felt we got sidelined and we got neglected, and even at one of their own community sub-committees that they had set up, they really didn’t listen to it or take into account what we were saying.”

“I think one of the things I learnt in the last few years is the importance of Council really listening to the community and trying to find out what the community actually wants.”

“We need a Council that really cares for the community itself and I don’t get that impression in a strong way. I think the Council itself needs to be much more engaged with the community,” said Adrian.

The Greens boast a ticket with candidates spread across the Yass Valley. Despite his own admission that there is a level of antagonism towards the Greens, Adrian believes they have policies that can significantly benefit the Yass Valley and the wider region moving forward.

“A greater focus is needed by Council on our natural and built environment to enhance community enjoyment of the Yass Valley,” he said.

Other issues of importance for Adrian include resolving the deterioration of the main street and promoting sustainable strategies for the long-term future of the Yass Valley. The latter he believes can be aided by Council re-committing to the Cities Power Partnership, which over 145 LGA’s nationwide remain party to.

As well as his involvement with the Historical Society, Adrian spends his time reading and working in the garden.
