Brent Lello’s Sixty Second Swirl
Like name, like nature they sometimes say. Well, Bob Makin from Murrumbateman Winery is seemingly always “makin” fine wine.
The wines produced by Bob are true to the cool climate form, and like the man himself, have a bit of character.
This is certainly the case with this week’s “swirl” – the Murrumbateman Winery Merlot 2018.
The colour is an inviting, deeply dark red with flashes of purple. A swirl reveals a compote of ripe red and black cherries with a few black currants thrown in for good measure.
There’s also the spice notes of star anise and cloves that our cool climate region is well known for.
The flavours are of bold, dark fruits. The palate is smooth, almost luscious texture with some gentle, cuddly warmth from the alcohol.
